Popis: There are six species of tree kangaroos that live in Indonesia and are endemic to Papua. They live in almost all parts of Papua (land and islands) and Lorentz National Park is recognized as their main habitat. They can also be found in Manokwari, Bintuni, Sorong, South Sorong, Maybrat, Waigeo, Fak-fak, Kaimana, Wondama/Wasior and Raja Ampat. Threats to these species include habitat loss from road development and forest conversion to other purposes including logging, mining, and modern agriculture such as palm oil, and wildlife hunting. All tree kangaroo species are protected by the Indonesia Government Regulation (PP RI No. 7/1999 and UU NO. 5/1990). Long-term work and commitment to collaboration with the WWF Papua Program in protecting these species should be taken into account for a future plan of tree kangaroo conservation action. International collaboration needs to be established in order for future conservation efforts to be effective for this species.
