Popis: Tumors of the small intestine are uncommon. In the two cases we encountered, the patients showed shock due to a massive hemorrhage from the tumors during their hospital stay. 1. A 76-year-old man was admitted to the hospital complaining of tarry stools. His blood study showed profound anemia and hypoproteinemia. The tumor was detected by a double contrast barium study of the small intestine and a selective angiogram. He was diagnosed as having a lipoma situated in the ileum at a distance of 110cm from Bauhin's valve. 2. The second patient was a 26-year-old man who complained of tarry stools. On the day of hospitalization, he developed shock. He was immediately transfused and underwent an emergency endoscopy. We detected fresh blood which had flowed back into the deep duodenum. A subsequent angiogram revealed a hypervascular tumor shadow and leaked contrast medium in the intestinal lumen, diagnosed as a leiomyoma in the jejunum. Both patients were operated on and the tumors were resected successfully.
