Popis: Publisher Summary A cyclic bidirectional loading experiment is carried out to examine the ultimate seismic behavior of thin-walled steel columns by using an accurate three-dimensional (3D) loading system. As the cyclic bidirectional loading patterns, the displacement-controlled cyclic circular load is adopted for circular columns, while the displacement-controlled cyclic diamond load is adopted for rectangular stiffened columns. These loading patterns are considered as one of the severest and realistic cyclic bidirectional loading patterns for the respective columns. The results obtained from the experiment are also used to confirm the validity of the nonlinear finite element model (FEM) shell analysis with the three-surface cyclic plasticity constitutive model. With the nonlinear FEM analysis as well as the experiment, the strength and ductility of thin-walled steel columns under cyclic bidirectional load are quantitatively evaluated in comparison with those under unidirectional cyclic load.
