Popis: The femoral canal is described as a ”cone” shaped tunnel, with a base, an apex and four walls. The apex is normally closed by a fascial barrier, and this barrier must be broken through for a femoral hernia to exist. The patent apex then forms the femoral hernial orifice which has the curved edge of Gimbernat’s ligament on its medial side. The advantages of the subinguinal or low operation for the repair of femoral hernia are described.
