Time‐resolved particle image velocimetry is used to measure the flow field behind orifice in a circular pipe, several large‐scale fluctuating structures are extracted by means of proper orthogonal decomposition. It is shown that “vertical flapping”and “compression and expansion” are the two most dominant fluctuating structures behind orifice. Comparison of the vertical central plane of the compression and expansion eigenmode and the peak position of the mass transfer coefficient points strongly suggests that the large‐scale compression and expansion fluctuating structure dominatesthe peak position of the mass transfer coefficients. |
