Popis: | The process of mathematizing a situation outside of mathematics by building mathematical models and developing model‐bound interpretations and solutions to problems related to the situation was actively experienced by the students both as a cognitive and a social activity. Points of special interest are: different roles of students as mathematical experts or as persons primarily concerned with the specialities of the non‐mathematical situation, the role of concrete and abstract models, the place of theory and axiomatics in modelling, definitions as concept explications and the question of adequacy, proofs and refutations as matters of social importance, the development and handling of alternative and competing models, methodological reflections and transfer to other domains of mathematics. |
