Popis: Over the last few years, a significant amount of work has been conducted on developing fiber-optic sensors that can be used to monitor the performance of structures". At times, the development of sensors seems to have been done without consideration of the specific types of structures for which they are being developed. Typical aerospace structures are composed of strut, beam, plate, and shell components, which can be made of many different kinds of materials. Depending on the types of components used in a structure, the materials used, the expected operating conditions, and expected in-service damage, the requirements for the sensors can vary drastically.
