Popis: A patient, who had treated with neuroleptic drugs for schizophrenia in a long period, was diagnosed as having a sigmoid colon cancer and underwent sigmoidectomy. The patient developed adhesive intestinal obstruction postoperatively, and intramuscular administration of halperidol was started instead of oral medication. Intractable high fever, akinetic mutism and marked rigidity on extrimities developed on the 25th post-operative day. Cessation of haloperidol and intravenous administration of dantrolene sodium promptly induced relief from these symptoms. Reoperation for adhesive intestinal obstruction which had been diagnosed before malignant syndrome occurred could be uneventfully carried out under general anesthesia together with dantrolene sodium treatment.
