Designing ‘fast’ products: impact of product color and texture on perception of speed

| Popis: | Visual perception of virtual products is becoming increasingly important in an environment dominated by online experiences. This study proposes a new methodological approach to the study of product speed perception in a two-dimensional (screen) virtual environment. The impact of two main design factors – color and texture – on the perceived speed of a recognizable product is quantified. The results have shown that the methodology is sensitive enough to distinguish between changes in perception of speed induced by said design elements. When systematic texture and color changes are applied, patterns of speed perception are observed with certain categories of textures and colors showing a bias towards higher or lower perceived speeds. |
