Popis: | A stainless steel apparatus for the study of the ejection of electrons from solid surfaces is described. The bakeable vacuum system consists of three sections and is capable of maintaining pressure in the 10−10 mm Hg region. Each of the three sections is pumped via a liquid nitrogen trap by a mercury diffusion pump. Typical pressures under operating conditions are 10−9 mm Hg in the target section and 10−6 mm Hg in the ion‐source section. The ion‐lens system is described and a convenient method of construction of ion lenses is illustrated. A description of a simple analog computer that determines the yield and the energy distribution of the ejected electrons is given. |
