Treatment of infertile couples by in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer is unique in medicine in that it requires close coordination and cooperation from both basic scientists and clinicians, both of whom are actively involved in the patients’ treatments. In addition, during an active treatment cycle, information is generated on a daily basis from the ultrasound department and/or radioimmunoassay laboratory concerning ovarian follicular development. All this information must be organized and provided to the clinicians and laboratory scientists in a timely fashion, so they can plan the actual events of oocyte recovery, fertilization and embryo transfer. |
