Disparities based on a number of sociodemographic variables (race, sex or gender, income, insurance status, geography) have been found in short-term outcomes after total hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries. Multiple review articles have summarized the evidence regarding these disparities, but they primarily focus on perioperative outcomes such as surgical complications, joint infection, and hospital readmission. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reviews summarizing the evidence regarding disparities in outcomes of interest to rehabilitation providers – patient-reported functional outcomes or use of rehabilitation. |
