Popis: Unfortunatly, many articles published about the Early Church, especially about the ministry, are based only on substantives one can find in the original texts, i.e. on the names which are used for the ministers of the different levels, such πρeσβv∈ρoζ and δioκoνoζ, although these terms are not clear in the modern sense. The verbs are almost completely neglected; but the verbs say how the ministers were initiated into their duty. Especially the verb καθiστημi plays a central role in Prima Clementis but also in other early documents. It shows that in the earliest times ministers were installed by a higher authority, by an apostle or an "other famous man". Therefore, Prima Clementis is a key for the understanding of the beginnings of the apostolic succession, but also - for other reasons - for instance for the understanding of the fragments of the letter of bishop Dionys of Corinth to the Romans. In the light of Prima Clementis this letter is - even indirectly - a testimony for the Roman authority.
