Popis: The goal of this project is to examine current evidence in support of the hypothesis that different dimensions of early adversity (i.e., deprivation and threat) are differentially related to ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC)-amygdala functional connectivity. The Dimensional Model of Adversity and Psychopathology (DMAP), a model of the impact of adversity on neural development, proposes that different neural, cognitive, and emotional pathways link early deprivation (e.g., lack of cognitive stimulation) and threat (e.g., violence) to the development of psychopathology. The deprivation pathway is hypothesized to be associated with deficits in cognitive processing, such as cognitive control and associated neural correlates; the threat pathway is hypothesized to be associated with emotional processing, such as fear learning and associated neural correlates.
