When observing the products of a gaseous discharge with an electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer, cyclotron resonances are often detected at low pressures. As the pressure of the gaseous discharge is decreased, fine structure in the cyclotron resonance begins to appear. At the lowest pressure attained in this work, 0.01 Torr, the fine structure consists of a triplet for a discharge in a variety of hydrocarbon gases. The positions of the components of the triplet are sensitive to the applied microwave power, and the central component is affected in a manner different from the outer two components. A possible interpretation of this fine structure in terms of plasma oscillations is presented. |
