Popis: Common mental disorders such as anxiety disorder and depression, with lifetime prevalence of up to 20%, are frequently co-morbid with chronic skin disease. However, the relationship between the two is complicated. In dermatology the prevailing view is that skin disease causes distress, and likewise its treatment will reduce it. It is also true that mental disorders such as depression can increase the subjective distress and disability caused by chronic skin disease and can interfere with effective treatment adherence. Low mood and anxiety can contribute to flare ups in inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. This chapter describes these common mental health disorders, the diagnostic criteria and the differential diagnosis, and highlights the treatment options.
