Popis: | The purpose of this study was to gather data describing the market for publishing professional textbooks in Home Economics teacher education. The objectives of the study were to determine which types of professional courses were most commonly offered in Home Economics teacher education programs; how many different courses of the same type were offered in the programs surveyed; how many of the courses offered, by type, were required or optional; and how many students were enrolled or have graduated over the last two-year period. The population surveyed included all chairpersons of four-year college- or university-based departments. Of the 233 persons surveyed, 187 (80.25 percent) responded. The data were gathered via a mailed questionnaire. “Student Teaching,”“Teaching Methods,”“Curriculum Development,” and “History, Philosophy, etc.” proved to be the four courses most commonly taught in Home Economics teacher education programs. The large majority of programs re ported offering at least two courses in these areas. Respectively, the percentages were 97 percent, 91 percent, 92 percent, and 89 percent. Approximately one-half of the programs also reported teaching courses in “Administration -Supervision,” and “Tests and Measurements.” The great majority of programs required the above courses for graduation. |
