In December 2016, the Dutch Government Committee on the Reassessment of Parenthood recommended introducing legislative amendments to allow for multiple legal parents and multiple adults with parental authority/responsibility. A major reason for introducing such amendments would be to legally recognise gay and lesbian collaborative co-parenting families where single or partnered lesbians and gay men conceive and raise a child together. This chapter considers the Dutch proposals on this issue and explores the extent to which these might serve as a good model for legislative reform in the UK. |
