Legal issues surrounding art and artists have become an everyday occurrence. Although librarians are routinely being called upon to provide information on artist' rights, copyright, business, ethical and legal issues, many art library collections are ill-equipped to provided this type of information. This paper attempts to demystify legal resources pertaining to art by providing background information concerning legal organizations which aid artists, a sample of the various subject headings used in periodical indexes, and approaches to collection development. It provides a selected annotated bibliography of legal resources focusing of legal treatises, how-to materials and government publications. |
