Popis: Max Weber asserted that the emancipating and rationalizing effect of Christianity made possible the rise of rational, burgeois capitalism in Europe. He implied that pre-Christian Europe was folkish and irrational. But the Viking literature reveals a remarkably individualistic and rational people, spiritually kin to Benjamin Franklin. Further investigation should reveal the respective influences in the rise of capitalism of indigenous, northern European ethos and of Mediterranean civilization and ideology.
