Popis:	The reaction of 5-hydroxy-4-methylflavylium salts with aldehydes, furnishing color-stable pyranoflavylium pigments, has been investigated in terms of scope and limitations. An unexpected chemical reactivity was observed and the origin of this reactivity is discussed.
