Effect of frequent collisions on the decay of a state

Popis: It has been suggested that the decay of a state is reduced by frequent phase-changing collisions. By explicit solution of a model collision problem, we show that collisions may increase or decrease the decay constant, the direction being the same as the departure of the free decay from the linear rule at early times.
