Popis: Previous research has shown that when people are distracted, they consume more food, during as well as after the distraction (van Meer et al., n.d.; van Dillen & Andrade, 2016), rate the food as less intense, and preferred intense tastes, such as saltiness and sweetness (van der Wal & van Dillen, 2013). Furthermore, Lyons et al. found that the more distracting a stimulus is, the more consumption is increased too (2013). The underlying framework suggests that by increasing the task load of the distraction, the cognitive capacity in a person is depleted, leaving them tasting less, and subsequently compensating by consuming more, which is called hedonic compensation (Oldham-Cooper et al., 2011). In this experiment, we want to test whether this phenomenon replicates.
