This paper presents a generalized predictive Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) average current control law and a digital method for conduction mode detection suitable for DC-DC converters and PFC converters. The DCM current controller is derived considering the practical aspects in the digital implementation. The mode detection method does not require additional circuits/sensors. The salient control equations are derived for boost, buck and buck-boost topologies using the derived generalized equations. The derived generalized predictive DCM average current controller and mode detection method are verified in simulations for a boost DC-DC converter and experimentally on a boost PFC converter hardware prototype. |
