Popis: This study aims to determine the consequences of nosocomial infections in mothers and newborns in maternity hospitals in the city of Mbujimayi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The study is longitudinal descriptive. It was conducted in 231 maternities of the city of Mbujimayi. A convenience sample was included in this study and consisted of 1488 cases of nosocomial infections among women who gave birth and 1353 cases of nosocomial infections in newborns who developed the consequences at the time of the survey and who were recorded using a data collection sheet. This study took place from 1st November 2016 to 31st May 2017, ie 6 months. This study included 1488 cases of nosocomial infections among women who gave birth and 1353 cases of nosocomial infections in newborn babies who developed the consequences and who were followed for a period of 6 months at the end of which respectively 18.4% of deliveries and 16.5% of newborns developed the consequences of nosocomial infections. The types of consequences developed by the childbirth and the newborn were: the cost of care higher than 15000 Congolese Francs (FC), equivalent to plus or minus US $ 10, the extended duration of stay greater than 6 days and the maternal (0.7%) and newborn (7.2%) deaths. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rise in the rate of nosocomial infections contributes to the increase in the mortality rate, the cost of patient care and the length of stay in hospital.
