Aiming at the problems of poor fault location accuracy and modal aliasing phenomenon of traditional high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines, a fault location method combining the improved variable mode decomposition(VMD) and generalized S-transform is proposed in this paper. This method uses the alternating optimization parameter method to optimize the number of modes k and the penalty factor. In this method, the VMD algorithm is used to decompose the traveling wave signal and extract its inherent modal components, and then S-transform is used to locate the fault mutation point accurately, so that the fault can be located precisely. A two-terminal MMC-HVDC simulation model in PSCAD is simulated to compare the simulation results of different fault positions, which verified that the proposed method can achieve accurate location of HVDC transmission line faults. |
