Popis: This chapter analyses what kinds of animals there are in Durkheim’s and Westermarck’s texts. It is shown that in addition to the generalizing mentions of animal (kingdom) and undefined ‘animal’, there are different species and groups of animals and even individual animals in these sociological texts. Through the examination of these different animal appearances, we understand why there are, for example, anecdotes of animal individuals in these old sociological books and what kinds of animals were used most in the theory construction done by these early developers of sociology. Most of these different groups and forms of animals appear in the texts of both Westermarck and Durkheim. But there are major differences in how and how much they are used in the texts of both.
