Analysis of selected fault states of 12/8 switched reluctance motors

Popis: Motors for critical drives require increased reliability. Switched reluctance motors are characterized by improved operational reliability. The tolerance effect, however, is partially dependent on the solution that is used. Designs with a minimum of four poles per phase are better suited for applications requiring increased reliability. This article analyzes selected fault states of a three-phase 12/8 switched reluctance motor. It is demonstrated that for the studied solution, damage to one pole winding allows the drivetrain to continue operating. The short circuit effect is manifested by a deterioration in the vibroacoustic characteristics of the motor (but at an acceptable level) and a decrease in the energy conversion efficiency.
