Popis: Terahertz (THz) technology is rapidly progressing all over the world owing to its various application possibilities in the field of basic natural science, engineering, and medicine. In spite of its huge scientific interest since 1920s, THz spectrum range is still list tapped region of the EM spectrum. The phrase explains the unavailability of suitable sources and detectors in this domain. In the late 1980s, invention of advanced spectroscopic tool helped the researcher immense. In this chapter, the authors will present a brief review on (I) available THz sources, (II) THz detectors, and (III) application of THz systems in biomedical imaging. Section I will deal with various different ways of generating THz power using optical/electronic means. Relative advantages and disadvantages of the available sources will be discussed thoroughly, followed by various physical phenomena that could be implemented in future source development to make it more compact and cheaper. Section II will deal with the various types of detection mechanisms available for commercial use, as well as in research domain that could be implemented successfully. Section III will deal with the possibilities of THz imaging in medicine. Various observations, new researches, and pros and cons of THz imaging will be described thoroughly in light of medical applications. This chapter will work as a compact review and ready reference for all scientists and engineers who are working with the development of THz source and system for the betterment of mankind.
