Popis: It is convenient to begin with a story that was told to me by a mathematics supervisor. One of the teachers whom this supervisor was observing began a lesson by saying “Children, open your desks and take out your elements.” Each child took out some colored counters. Next, “Now take out your sets.” Each child took out some loops of differently colored yarns. “Now, put your green elements in your yellow set.” And so on. This teacher was being very modern by using the word “set” in class—of course, she was using it very incorrectly. A set is not a loop of yarn. And, it has no color.
