Popis: Although the diversity of terrestrial species of the Amazon basin is well documented, aquatic species inhabiting the Amazon River and its tributaries have been little studied. In their Perspective, [Gascon and Smith][1] discuss a comprehensive survey of electric fish species in a 2000-km transect of the Amazon basin ([ Fernandes et al .][2]), which reveals patterns of diversity among aquatic species akin to those found for terrestrial creatures.
