'Big data methods' have begun to be used in public administration across the world. They have enabled efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of public administration tasks to increase to an unprecedented level. This manuscript introduces big data and big data methods, and discusses the possibilities of using these methods in public supervision including combination with Risk Based Supervision. Moreover, the manuscript cites case studies, which provide examples of the successful implementation of big data use in public authority supervisory processes. Finally, the manuscript also discusses the benefits, challenges, and risks connected with using big data for supervisory purposes. |
