Popis: | We conducted an association study of multiple gene polymorphisms which can potentially influence human height. The study was carried out on a group of randomly selected 331 adults, including 109 men and 229 women of Slavic origin. We choose 13 gene candidates which have been previously suggested to positively affect human growth, including: EFEMP1, ZBTB38, HHIP, LCORL, ADAMTSL3, CDH13, JAZF1, IGF1R, GHSR, CABLES1, IFNG, VDR3, and IGFBP3. We employed the PCR-RFLP method to evaluate the allelic and genotypic frequencies for these genes in the studied population. We established a statistically significant correlation between the rs572169 variant of the GSHR gene and the height in men. We developed a novel algorithm to predict human height based on the linear regression method. Our genetic and bioinformatics analysis provides a new methodological tool to predict human height based on genetic markers. |
