Popis: Paperback notebook, IE TCD MS 7271. Manuscript note on front cover reads ‘Journal of Rt. Honble. Henry Theop. Clements. Journey to Nice in 1791 [sic]’. First 6 folios consist of journal entry on one side and expenses lists on the other.Clements leaves London on 20th September 1791. By carriage his journey takes him from Arras in the north of France to Antibes on the southeast coast. Clements notes the exchange rate at the time as ’27 livres for each Guinea at Calais’ and each Louis is worth 29 shillings. The few social comments he makes centre around the unhappiness and the poverty felt by the people under ‘the present situation of the kingdom’.
