RF plasma heating in the Uragan stellarator. II. Thermal isolation and particle containment

Popis: Presents the results of measurements of the ion energy and particle lifetimes in an r.f. plasma in the Uragan stellarator. The ion energy lifetime was found by measuring the rate of cooling of the ion component on switching off the r.f. power. The particle lifetime was determined during the active discharge phase from the equation of balance for the charged particles. It is shown that, for collision frequencies corresponding to the neo-classical 'plateau' regime, the ion thermal conductivity and the particle diffusion are in agreement with the values predicted theoretically.
