This research investigates the perception of Taiwanese teachers on certain issues with reference to mainly the 2030 Bilingual Country Project and other recent educational reforms. Three participants partook in this study and were in-service teachers at elementary, junior and senior high school. The research context was the language education in private and public schools. Significant phenomena pertaining to bilingual education in classrooms in Taiwan were found. First, opinions and attitudes toward the achievability of making Taiwan a bilingual nation differed from teachers from all levels of education. Second, neither a methodical language planning nor a practical guidance on bilingual teaching was provided at the moment in schools for teachers or administrators. Third, the three existing language subjects taught in schools, Mandarin, English, and Dialects, should be discussed equally in lieu of sequentially. |
