Popis: | The fabrication of track detectors with boron atoms uniformly dispersed throughout the volume of the track detector material has been successfully accomplished. Because of their small size they have little effect on the neutron flux one is trying to measure. It is possible to make measurements of neutron flux densities over a range of six to seven decades. Track density is found to be a function of the thickness of detector surface etched away and the ranges of the alpha particle and lithium recoil particle resulting from the capture of a neutron by a 10B atom. At etching proceeds, track density may increase or decrease depending on the etching rate of the bulk material relative to the maximum etching rate perpendicular to the particle path. A new method of studying diffusion through thin layers at the surface of a solid is suggested. |
