The current research investigates the unsteady flow over the SFS 2 ship model for the three flow conditions using the solver Cobalt. A unstructured tetrahedral grid is generated by grid generation package, Gridgen. The large separations and vortex flows over the ship model were well simulated. The unsteadiness of the flow was demonstrated by the velocity histories with respect to the time and their spectra. The unsteady airwake behind the superstructure was well captured. The time-averaged numerical results agree well with the corresponding measurement data on the off-body planes in the flight deck and superstructure regions. The investigation indicated that the solver Cobalt is satisfied with the requirements for investigating the helicopter-ship interaction problem. |
