Design centering is an optimal system design problem which seeks the optimal values of designable system parameters that maximize the probability of satisfying design specifications (yield function). A new statistical design centering technique based on a derivative free trust region optimization method is introduced. The principal operation of this optimization method relies on building and successively-updating quadratic surrogate models to be optimized instead of the expensive yield function using few data points. The new technique for design centering is employed to obtain the optimal design center of RF cavity with resonance frequency of 9.4 GHz. Yield has significantly improved in few iterations. |
