Energy storage systems like batteries are a key element in the attempt of solving the energy crisis, enabling renewable power sources in large scales and developing strategies for a sustainable future. In this work, cell and aging processes of state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries are investigated and discussed. A focus lies on investigation by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). In the first and second part, predominant processes in the impedance spectra of two different lithium-ion batteries (layered oxide cathodes vs. graphitic anodes) are investigated. The two cell‘s impedance spectra are significantly different from each other. However, the predominant processes can still be assigned to their corresponding electrodes. In the third and fourth part, aging processes of anode/cathode due to calendric and cyclic aging are discussed. Thereby, results from the previous chapters are considered. Also, results from a previous dissertation are taken into account for a more precise investigation of underlying aging phenomena.
