Popis: This paper deals with the comparison of the performance of various controllers at the rectifier terminal of an HVDC system feeding into a weak AC system. The comparison of these controller configurations is presented in terms of the system stability, system start-up time, and the system recovery following selected faults. The measures considered for system recovery are the dynamic over-voltages and the DC power recovery time. It is found that some controllers are best for improving system stability and start-up while others are best for improving the system recovery from various faults. Hence an intelligent controller could be built whose configuration may be adapted according to the operating conditions.
