As a new movement in human thought, general systems theory permits us to approach scientifically the study of the laws of life, which cannot be reached by the methods of reductionalistic sciences. Linear causality of the cause-consequence type is inadequate for understanding certain complex phenomena such as, for example, human behavior. The medical model characterized by linear causality is, however, still one of the most frequently applied in studying human behavior, especially in drawing distinctions between normal and diseased. |
