Popis:	The land, sea, and air forces of most countries in the Asia-Pacific region are rapidly modernizing and improving their power projection capabilities, says Chas. W. Freeman, chairman of the board of Projects International Assoc. and a former diplomat with considerable experience in Chinese affairs. The current pace of military modernization by Southeast Asian countries will widen the technology gap with China over the next few years, but then the gap will begin to narrow, Freeman says. However, maintaining peace in the region will depend more on thoughtful diplomacy and political trends than advanced military technology, he claims.
