Popis: Results from unsteady, time-accurate simulations of a jet-in-crossflow are presented. The flow regime consists of a supersonic jet issuing into a transonic cross flow. The goal of the simulations is to capture the position and strength of the dominant vortex structures in the flow. The investigation is carried out using DES approaches. Initial results showed poor qualitative and quantitative agreement with data and the differences were attributed to the grid and boundary conditions. However, RANS results agreed reasonably well when compared with previous RANS calculations. Additional grids were evaluated and calculations with improved boundary conditions were obtained. Calculations using the same model in a different code confirmed the behavior to be model dependent. Comparisons with experimental data were not improved but the mesh was deemed the potential issue and work on a mesh aligned with the shear layer is presented.
