Popis: Superheated emulsions consisting of drops of superheated liquid are known to detect energetic neutron, gamma rays and other charged particles. The minimum energy (threshold) required to nucleate the drops of a given liquid depends on the operating temperature and applied pressure of the liquid. The threshold energy for nucleation decreases with increase in temperature and decrease in pressure of the superheated emulsion and therefore it becomes sensitive to lower and lower energetic radiation at higher temperature and lower pressure. This is one of the principles, utilized for the application of the superheated emulsion in neutron spectrometry. In the present work, the response of the superheated emulsions consisting of the drops of the superheated liquid of R114 (C 2 Cl 2 F 4 , b.p. 3.77°C) has been measured by varying operating temperature and applied pressure, in presence of neutrons generated by the Pb(γ,n)Pb from 45 MeV electron LINAC at Hokkaido University. An approach has been made to unfold the neutron energy spectrum generated at the above-mentioned area. Spectrum at the detector position has been calculated by the MCNP code and a comparison has been made with the experimental spectrum. The present study implies the possible neutron spectrometry application of superheated emulsion in accelerator site.
