Skull stripping is a vital topic of interest in the area of brain Magnetic Resonance (MR) image processing. It removes the non-cerebral tissue region from the MR image to avoid the error during segmentation. An unsupervised histogram analysis based segmentation method has been proposed to reduce the computational time of processing. Required threshold value of segmentation is calculated by evaluating the peak of the histogram of image. This technique eliminates the need of traditional opening and closing operations to increase the speed of computation. This reduction of computational time of skull striping algorithm will enhance the overall speed of brain MR image segmentation. In experimentation, average execution time of the proposed approach is found to be 0.0522 seconds. |
