Popis: | Sitshokupi Sibanda was a long‐serving leader in the Brethren in Christ Church of colonial Zimbabwe, from the 1900s until the 1960s. This article details the roles she played and analyses the various ways her work has been named and remembered by both Africans and missionaries. This process reveals a male‐dominated mission church that found indirect ways to accommodate leadership energies of women, and an African Christian woman whose evangelistic work for the church incorporated, in Christian idiom, key elements both of the practices of the missionaries who mentored her, and of the regionally significant shrine religion into which she had been born. |
