Popis: | With the development of an increasing number and variety of non-traditional educational forms in American universities, or on the periphery of them-such as open schools, campuses without walls, external degrees, etc.-the role of traditional night schools and extension systems about the country is receiving increased attention by university planners and administrators.' Many see these systems as the natural platform upon which to erect new experimental outreach functions as well as enlarged or strengthened versions of what already exists. Views vary, of course, as do the histories of individual institutions. In some situations the extension function is simply equated with operation of night school. In others it is seen as a means for easing the pressure on the university for what is often vaguely referred to as a need for greater 'relevance.''
