Popis: The nonsymbiotic, diazotrophic filamentous bacteria isolated from Casuarina nodules in Mexico belong to a new group of actinomycetes according to the partial sequence of genes coding for the 16S rRNA (Niner et al., 1996). All isolates reduce acetylene in vitro however, they form no vesicles, which are the specialized structures to protect nitrogenase in Frankia, the other known diazotrophic filamentous bacterium. They also failed to form nodules on actinorhizal plants.
