The cuticle proteins of Dacus oleae have been analysed with emphasis on the third larval stage (L3DCPs). The proteins studied are released from the cuticle with a solution of 7 M urea and contain a total of seven polypeptides (L3DCPs 1–7) with molecular weights ranging from 19,000 to 24,000. The L3DCPs have isoelectric points ranging from 4.7 to 5.5 and poor antigenic characteristics. The DCPs are unique in each developmental stage of Dacus oleae , with the exceptions of the L1 and L2 stages which show similar protein patterns. As development proceeds from the larval to the adult stage, the DCPs increase in molecular weight as well as isoelectric points. The comparison of immunological characteristics indicates that the DCPs have a greater similarity to the CPs of Ceratitis capitata than to the CPs of Drosophila melanogaster . |
